How to check a replacement seal
Matching an outside diameter or a reference number is not enough to establish interchangeability. Compare the complete part specification and the application before approving a replacement.
- Identify the existing part, equipment and available drawing revision.
- Compare every specified dimension and the complete sealing profile.
- Check compound, operating conditions and installation requirements.
- Confirm the replacement specification and acceptance requirements in writing.
Check the complete dimensions
Record the units and the meaning of each dimension, including multiple heights or steps. Compare against the drawing and housing or shaft information. Do not round a dimension or discard a secondary height to force a match.
Check the profile and operating conditions
Compare the sealing lips, case construction and any features shown in the drawings or photographs. Ask for confirmation of details that are not visible. A shared size does not establish the same pressure, speed or contamination capability.
Use part numbers as evidence to investigate
Use the exact reference, including prefixes and suffixes, to locate candidates. Request a documented cross-reference or drawing comparison before treating a candidate as an approved substitute.
Prepare a replacement enquiry
Send photographs, readable markings, dimensions, the product link and the operating conditions. Include quantity and destination. Keep the existing part available until the replacement specification has been confirmed.
