A useful custom-seal enquiry identifies the part, its operating conditions and the evidence needed for approval. A drawing or sample starts the review; it does not by itself confirm manufacturability, tooling cost or a delivery date.
- Identify drawing number, revision, dimensions, tolerances and units.
- Describe the fluid, temperature, pressure and whether the seal is static or moving.
- Separate prototype quantity, first production order and expected repeat demand.
- State destination and any required inspection or documentation.
What to send with a drawing or sample
Include readable views of the sealing surfaces and critical dimensions. If only a used sample is available, identify wear or damage and provide housing or shaft measurements where available. A worn sample may not reproduce the original design.
What to confirm before tooling or production
Agree the drawing revision, compound designation, permitted substitutions, marking and packaging. Ask the quotation to separate tooling, sample and production charges and to state which items require your approval.
How to define acceptance
Specify the dimensions and documents you need to check, and agree any application testing before ordering. Request relevant inspection records; do not assume a general company certificate certifies every product or batch.
How can I verify a factory or trading supplier?
Match the legal company name on the quotation, business registration and payment documents. Ask which operations are performed in-house and which are subcontracted. A factory may subcontract some processes; a trading company may coordinate qualified producers. Evaluate the documented capabilities and responsibility for your order rather than the label alone.
For claimed audits or certifications, check the issuing body, scope, covered site and validity dates. Request evidence relevant to the proposed part, such as drawing review, sample inspection and batch traceability. A marketing photograph or logo does not replace these records.
How should tooling, MOQ and lead time be agreed?
Separate tooling, samples, first production and repeat orders in the quotation. Record when each clock starts, which approvals are required, and who owns or maintains the tooling. Confirm the order-specific minimum quantity and delivery schedule; do not treat a general catalog range as a commitment for a new design.
