Material & Construction

The lip and outer moulding are NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber) bonded to a steel insert. NBR handles mineral oil, hydraulic oil and grease over -30 C to +100 C (short peaks to +120 C) and keeps its grip on a shaft that is a little out of true. A garter spring maintains lip load as the running surface polishes in. Where heat, synthetic fluid or chemical exposure goes beyond that envelope, the same 55 x 70 x 8 size can be made in FKM, or in HNBR where abrasion and ozone are the main risk.
