Material & Construction

The sealing element is moulded from NBR (nitrile butadiene rubber), the general purpose lip material for mineral oil, gear oil and bearing grease. It covers -30 C to +100 C (short peaks to +120 C) and keeps enough elasticity to follow a shaft with small runout. The lip is bonded to a metal case and held on the shaft by a garter spring. If a hub runs hotter than that, or the lubricant is a synthetic with aggressive additives, the same 100 x 130 x 15 geometry can be quoted in FKM (fluoroelastomer, also written FPM), which holds continuous duty to about +200 C.
